My Most Memorable Birthday

It was memorable yet I cannot remember exactly what year it happened. I just remember what happened that day. Pardon the epidural effect. Anyway.

I was born in October, a month that belongs to the rainy season. My mom said there was a typhoon when she gave birth to me so since the time I can already understand things, I knew it would always rain on my birthday. In fact, I get lonely when it does not happen early. I never had a birthday where it did not rain.

This birthday, there was a typhoon. It was a strong one. We woke up with the sound of strong wind whistling above us for we did not know, our roof was already blown away. The cold air has entered our home that was why we did not notice that there was no electricity. It was nearly lunch and my mom is ready to cook my spaghetti when just after the pan got hot, the fire on the stove died. We do not have LPG anymore. I and my older brother went out to buy one because it is the only way we can cook food. The nearby stores were either closed or out of stock. We cannot go home without one and so we decided to go to the nearest Petron station in our area. If you are familiar, the distance of the gas station from our home is like Robinson’s Galleria to Boni. The jeepney was also scarce at that time so we just walked. Good thing we do not have to carry the LPG tank as we have a trolley to carry it. At the end of the day, we were able to eat my spaghetti, the electricity was restored as well as our roof.

Bubble Thought

Out of no where, I remembered my paternal grandmother.

You see, we did not grow up close to any of our paternal relatives. All our childhood years, the end of school year is synonymous to two whole months of vacation in Pangasinan. It is where my maternal grandparents live.

It is very rare that we see our paternal relatives, except for one of my uncles.

My dad told me that Nanay’s health is slowly deteriorating. It made me sad and told myself that I should visit her more. I was also told that she was looking for me when she celebrated her birthday recently. I was not able to see her because there was a typhoon at that time and they celebrated on a weekday. Instead, I sent her some urinary incontinence products through my dad.

I really wish I could see her more often, while she is still here. I should really learn how to drive so I won’t get into hubby’s schedule.

Cebu Pacific is Frustrating

I am helping the seminary officials where my mom works part-time to get a group booking rate. They will be having an educational tour in Manila and they want to know the cost of flying back to Tacloban.

If I am not mistaken, it is almost 2 weeks now since I requested a quotation from a friend who manages a travel agency. I made the request on a Saturday, the agency made a request on a Monday. Does that really have to take that long?! Why? I have been texting my friend for updates, almost every 2 hours since yesterday and until now, Cebu Pacific has not replied to them. Arrgh! The most frustrating part is I cannot do anything about it!
