Ayex’s Graduation Experience – Part 1

I know this is a delayed post but please bear with me as we just got back from an instant getaway to Pangsinan. I didn’t realized how beautiful that province is given that it is where I spent most of my summer vacations when I was young. Sorry for digressing, I shall blog about that trip after this one.

Ayex’s graduation was very very very long. It tired not only the parents and guardians but most of all, the kids – both graduating and not. There was a point when everyone is already hungry but the the food cannot be served yet because the rites is not yet done. The whole program seemed to be a bit disorganized as well or maybe because they mixed the graduation and recognition rites in one event.

If there’s any thing I enjoyed as a parent, that would be the privilege of accepting your child’s first diploma and first school awards. Ayex was awarded Most Neat and Best in Science.

Today has been a busy day for me. I have to leave the office now I can make it home earlier. I hope you understand. Please come back tomorrow to read the details of the Ayex’s first graduation event.

Have a great night ahead everyone!

My Seven Heaven On Earth

Thanks to Ms. Earth of http://www.earthlingorgeous.com/ for this invitation to write about My Seven Heaven on Earth. SHOEs are 7 things, places, events, items, or people in your life that you appreciate. They can be huge or little things as long as it made you happy, proud, thankful and in a positive mood. This reminds me to think of things that really matters to me, stuff that really makes me happy and contented as a person.

This is my first time to about my SHOES so bear with my list. It comes in no particular order.

  1. pre-nurseryAyex, my little girl is graduating from her Pre-nursery class. The graduation is on Thursday, Match 18, 2010. Who would have thought that kids graduate at pre-nursery? Our only objective why we enrolled her to that class is for her to develop her social skills. Now, she even know what Go, Grow and Glow foods are. She’s only 3-years-old and yet, she was able to pick-up a lot from her daily class at school. She had made friends and tells us stories of how her day went by when we come home at night. I’m such a proud mom and I’m sure hubby is one proud daddy too!
  2. dream houseHubby is moving to a new company. While is took a lot of waiting and praying, we are very thankful for this answered prayer. Sure we will need to sacrifice a little more; I would have to commute going home despite being pregnant and he has to take a mid-shift. At the end of the day, we see this as a great opportunity. Hubby will have career growth and we will have more money for our dream house.
  3. Maybelline PhilippinesFor the first time, I won in an online contest! I love contests, who doesn’t? The thing is, I don’t get lucky like the others. I know several Mommies who won fabulous prizes when they join these contests and I must admit, I envy them at times. I’m super thankful to Maybelline Philippines for choosing me as one of their winners of How I Met Maybelline.

  4. There are several reasons why I love social networking sites, the most obvious is that they keep me connected to people dear to me but are far or very far from me. Accept it, in this time, you hardly see people close to you like your friends that often. Schedules just won’t meet, right? Thanks to Facebook or Multiply, you get updated on their whereabouts. Blog and Chat are other channels that keep me connected to them and I’m so thankful good Internet now exists. Imagine what will happen if we try to use these sites via dial-up connection. Ay!
  5. Summer is here! Hopefully, we’ll be able to hit the beach or the pool with our loved ones at least twice this summer. My little girl is all ready! Have you read my blog about her summer gears?
  6. maternity dress My pregnancy is doing great. I’m now on my 27th week. I can feel my baby play inside my tummy almost all them time. I think I’m being a good mom because I don’t have swollen legs yet even if I’m almost entering my third trimester. In a few weeks time, we will see our new bundle of joy! We hope and pray that we’ll have a healthy baby.
  7. My sisters are finally having a life of their own. It’s time to treat them as big girls. Gabby, our youngest, started with her job in an international company yesterday, Tuesday. Toni, my other younger sister is probably having fun already. Today is her first plane ride with boyfriend, Rico. They are bound to Bohol-Cebu for one romantic getaway! While I envy Toni, I just can’t travel now due to my baby bump. facebook smileys

How do you teach a child to write?

How I wish I am a work at home mom now. I would probably have lots of time teaching and helping Ayex with her school work.

Recently, Ayex had a math quiz where I had to review her on tracing and writing the numbers 6-10. I know that I have to prepare our material, dotted lines which she has to trace. How about explaining the strokes she has to follow to make the numbers? How do you explain that to a 3 year-old?

So that night we came home and found she will have a quiz the next day, I ate as fast as I can and clean-up myself. I am making tracing materials for Ayex to practice her writing the numbers 6-10. I didn’t realize that making the materials alone will take time. So much time that I was only able to create one page with the numbers 6-10. Since it was already late (we get home at around 8pm and her class the next day starts at 8am), after Ayex finished that one page, she started to refuse listening to our instructions. Later on, she said Mommy antok na ako. What a mom should do? Of course I let her sleep. And then I worried about how she will perform with the exam. She got 6 out 10 correctly.

I still don’t have the answer to my 2nd question: How do you explain the strokes a child has to follow to create a letter or a number?. All I know now is that I have to be consistent with how her teachers say the strokes so she can easily identify with what I say. The good news is, I found something via Mr. G that will give me more time to teach Ayex how to write because I won’t have to do the tracing materials manually.

Make Free Handwriting Worksheets

The site is a bit hard to navigate but once you find your way, you can create your Handwriting Materials for Free in more of less 5 minutes. I created materials for the numbers 6-10 and saved it in the site for future use. You can search the author Ayex if you need similar materials.

Last Monday, I asked hubby to print one page for each number and photocopy them after. Now, we have several pages at home which we can use anytime to practice the little girl even if there is no quiz at school.

The little girl had another quiz about the numbers 6-10 yesterday, this time she got 8 out 10 correct. She was able to trace all the numbers but did not write the numbers 7 and 9.

Got tips on how to teach a child how to write apart from practice makes perfect, why don’t you share them here?

Hi there! I'm Nicquee and this is my little space in this world wide web. I'm a mom of two and is happily married. I started this blog as literally my online journal where I dump my emotions.
