Global Warming Effects

Did you notice how hot it is the past few days? If you didn’t, you’re probably on the other hemisphere of the globe. Good for you then! I pity myself and eventually our little girl because this high pressure area got into us.

Last Saturday, we went back to Las Pinas again to visit my family for the nth time this month. We’ve been going there almost every week because we have events to attend to. First was our usual visit, next was Toni’s 22nd birthday, and the third is because we’ll pay a visit to my paternal grandmother.

Mon and I have been thinking why is it so hot in their area despite all the trees planted in the village. We couldn’t stay inside the house because it’s simply too hot. I took a shower and even before I get out, I was already sweating! Yay! That day, Ayex didn’t have her usual nap, probably because of the heat as well. Come bedtime, she kept on moving from side to side asking for milk or a back rub. Mon wasn’t able to get a good night sleep either despite having two electric fans turned on! I couldn’t sleep because they couldn’t sleep. That’s how hot it was!

I was able to sleep at 5am, when it was already bright outside. My aching throat which I hoped will not continue to colds already did. Without enough sleep and constant heat, my immune system is so weak. While we were in Batangas where my Lola is, my eyes were already hurting bad. On our way back to Quezon City, I’m already feeling cold. That’s why I wasn’t able to go to work on Monday and Tuesday. I got cough, colds and slight fever. I did my best to keep away from Ayex but I think that’s impossible for a breastfeeding mom. Last Tuesday when I was feeling a bit better already, Ayex exhibited symptoms of colds as she kept on sneezing! Ay yay yay!

I so hate this weather. In the morning it will be furiously hot. In the afternoon, it would rain. Even the people with strongest immune system will not probably survive this wacko weather!

Domestic Day

Remember my post about my houseband? He is still a houseband until now. He takes care of the little girl on weekdays and works when she’s asleep. I on the otherhand take care of everything else on weekends. Today is another domestic day for me.

Contrary to what we usually do on weekends, which is to sleep as long as we want to, I woke up at 7am. I tried my best to sneak out of the bed to keep the little girl sleeping with Mon so I can take care of the over-flowing dirty clothes in our hamper. I wasn’t successful. Before I opened the door, she shouted Mommy, dede!. I had to go back and tell her that it is time for mommy to wash the clothes. She kept on saying washing? washing?. We ended up having her with me in our dirty kitchen, playing with water and bubbles.

I juggle between baby-sitting Ayex, feeding her and doing the laundry. I got several calls from my parents asking me what time we’ll be in their place for my sister’s birthday. I was already feeling exhausted and irritated at the same time. I wanted to finish the laundry early but there are too many distractions.

By 12 noon, I’m finally done. My back hurts really badly and my head is spinning a bit. We still had to get some diaper stocks from my supplier before heading to Las Pinas because apparently, we had to restock some items. Whew!

It was late afternoon when I thought of calling a home service massage. Good thing everyone was home and Ayex has a lot of playmates. I was able to get the reward I badly needed for months!

Record power savings for RP in Earth Hour 2009

I was super giddy to hear that Philippines topped the rest of the world in terms of participation the the recent Earth Hour 2009. But as Nix said, we should be more concerned of how much power we were able to save. And the results are here. I’m so proud that me and my whole family participated!

Record power savings for RP in Earth Hour 2009
By Katherine Adraneda Updated March 31, 2009 05:04 PM

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines topped last Saturday’s hour-long lights-off drive in terms of power savings.

According to information posted in the website wwf.org.ph, the Philippines saved 611 MWh of power during the Earth Hour 20009, outshining the rest of the world.

The website also disclosed that with over 15 million Filipinos in 650 major cities participating in the event last Mar. 26, the Philippines edged out all other countries, including Australia where the first Earth Hour was conducted in 2007.

Greece placed second with 484 cities and towns participating, followed by Australia with 309.

The website indicated that the power conserved by the Philippines during voluntary event was estimated to be equal to that saved by shutting down a dozen coal-fired power plants for an hour.

Earth Hour 2009’s power savings was deemed “at least 10 times more massive and effective” compared to last year.

Correction: Earth Hour happened last March 28, 2009 and not March 26.

If you participated in this event, wherever you are, Thank You! Let us all continue to work together in saving Mother Earth.
