Give a Child a Pencil

HotelwithHeart.com Pencil Project

“We can measure statistics of children without the means of Basic Education, we can measure poverty, we can measure the rising crime rate, and we can even measure the cost of ignorance. But can we truly measure the potential of a child? By providing these children with the materials wherein they can continue to learn, we are offering them a brighter future.” ~ Dr. Rudy Sabater, HWH Director

Hotelwithheart.com (HWH), the world’s first and only online hotel booking site that gives to charity from commission income at no cost to guests, partners with Dynamic Teen Company (DTC). DTC is a group founded in August 1997 by four teenagers from Cavite National High School, including Efren Penaflorida, 2009 CNN Hero of the Year. Their mission is to make small yet significant difference in other people’s lives, particularly the small children in slum areas who have no access to education, basic hygiene and sometimes, even love from their families. Through the HWH Pencil Project Signature campaign, each collected signature is equivalent to one pencil that HWH will donate to DTC for less fortunate kids to help them in their education.

The Pencil Project originally ran for the entire month of June, but is now extend till the end of July. HWH aims to raise 10,000 pencils to be donated to DTC. I signed up today and it only took me three minutes to fill-up the form. Please help HWH and DTC give these unfortunate children a brighter future by supporting this campaign. Simply visit HWH Fanpage at Facebook.com/hotelwithheart to sign-up.

Missing the Old Days

A few days before my sister-in-law left for the United States, we had conversation about internet providers. She asked if there are any providers in our area that guarantees fast and reliable connection. She mentioned that abroad, she is using a basic plan but it is really fast. Then we started talking about the days when we can only connect to the internet using dial-up connection. We recalled that during those days, when we use the internet, nobody can use the phone. If you go to the internet shops, they charge you with as much as P60/hour. And that printing costs in those days was also very expensive! And that made me appreciate my connection even if it makes me nuts at times.

But that reminiscing also made me miss some things. Traditional things, if I may say. Since the advent of internet, almost everything got hi-tech. Gone are the days when you will receive personalized Valentine Photo Cards in your mail box from a secret admirer. Oh how I miss sending snail mails! Are there still post offices now? Honestly, I struggle to write on paper sometimes because I got so used to typing on the keyboard. Sad, eh? Don’t you just miss some things when technology was not yet everything?

My Wish for Ate Yam

Ate Meriam or Yam is my every trusted helper. She is the one who almost raised Ayex from baby until now. And she took care of Maxyn from baby until now that she is one year old. She is very helpful in everything that we need. Other than the usual household chores, she also help in repairing our clothes for she knows how to sew. Ah, when will I ever start on my sewing projects?

Anyway, I taught her to use Facebook recently. I created a new email address for her because FB says that the email address she is using is already invalid. Since then, she borrows Ayex’s netbook to practice when the girls are already sleeping. How I wish we can give her her own lappy. She said she is fine with refurbished netbooks as long as she will be able to use it and it has no problems what ever.

She still needs to practice being online and there are a lot more things she will learn. What I like about her is that she is persistent and enthusiastic.

Hi there! I'm Nicquee and this is my little space in this world wide web. I'm a mom of two and is happily married. I started this blog as literally my online journal where I dump my emotions.
