Give a Child a Pencil

HotelwithHeart.com Pencil Project

“We can measure statistics of children without the means of Basic Education, we can measure poverty, we can measure the rising crime rate, and we can even measure the cost of ignorance. But can we truly measure the potential of a child? By providing these children with the materials wherein they can continue to learn, we are offering them a brighter future.” ~ Dr. Rudy Sabater, HWH Director

Hotelwithheart.com (HWH), the world’s first and only online hotel booking site that gives to charity from commission income at no cost to guests, partners with Dynamic Teen Company (DTC). DTC is a group founded in August 1997 by four teenagers from Cavite National High School, including Efren Penaflorida, 2009 CNN Hero of the Year. Their mission is to make small yet significant difference in other people’s lives, particularly the small children in slum areas who have no access to education, basic hygiene and sometimes, even love from their families. Through the HWH Pencil Project Signature campaign, each collected signature is equivalent to one pencil that HWH will donate to DTC for less fortunate kids to help them in their education.

The Pencil Project originally ran for the entire month of June, but is now extend till the end of July. HWH aims to raise 10,000 pencils to be donated to DTC. I signed up today and it only took me three minutes to fill-up the form. Please help HWH and DTC give these unfortunate children a brighter future by supporting this campaign. Simply visit HWH Fanpage at Facebook.com/hotelwithheart to sign-up.

Yesterday, I went to POEA in Ortigas to accompany my sister-in-law. I knew our appointment will not take up the whole day so instead of using the frozen milk in our freezer, I expressed milk while Maxyn fed on the other breast before we left in the morning. I did not have any problem leaving Maxyn behind and Ayex was still sleeping with her dad.

Upon checking my phone, I saw a text message from my sister, Toni. She said our father already sold his car and was very sad about what happened. She told me to talk to Papa if ever he calls me.

At POEA, I stayed outside as they do not allow companions inside the offices. I was starting to become bored when I remembered to text Papa. He called me and told me the story how the deal was closed. It appears to me that he was quite shocked of what happened as the deal was closed in less than an hour. In less than hour, his only asset was taken from him. When we were talking, everything seemed fine. I just listened and just gave my comment when needed.

Parents Orientation

Last Saturday, we attended the pre-school parents’ orientation at Divine Grace Child Development Center where we enrolled Ayex as Kinder 1. We chose this over the other school because they are offering Chinese lessons in all levels and we think of that as an advantage.

It was my first ever parents’ orientation and I am glad to know that the I share the same sentiments as the school. What exactly do I mean?

Initially, I thought of homeschooling Ayex because I want to control her lessons to the basics. When I hear parents rave about their children being thought very advanced subjects in pre-school, it does not amaze me. Instead, I kind of pity the kids because I know they are stressed out from the heavy school work they do. My homeschooling project did not push through so we had to look for a school that offers a balanced curriculum.

And we are glad that we found Divine Grace. They believe that children should be left as children. They believe that preparatory school is not about academics because they will take that in the formal schooling which starts at grade 1. They believe that preparatory school is about preparing a child to take on the challenges of formal schooling by developing their values.

I am truly glad that I heard what I want to hear during the orientation. In a week’s time, Ayex will be going to school already. I hope everything will turn out fine, specially her bad sleeping habits.

Hi there! I'm Nicquee and this is my little space in this world wide web. I'm a mom of two and is happily married. I started this blog as literally my online journal where I dump my emotions. Over the years, I realized that there is more to write about. Feel free to browse through and I hope you find a thing or two that is relatable to you. If that happens, give me a shout-out!
