Gone are the days when an ocular and phone call are the only means to get hotel rates. In this era where technology seems to be the king, everything is already available online. Among the many things are cheap hotel rates.

Wherever you are going, with a few keywords and a click, you will surely find what you are looking for online. The results of your search can sometimes be overwhelming as you are presented with loads of links containing bits and pieces of your keywords. But do not be fooled. They key when consulting with the Internet for information is that you have to be selective and cautious.

Water Borne Diseases to Watch Out For

It was Wednesday when hubby told me that he is taking a leave from work on Friday. He was sniffing a little so I thought he would like to rest from all the office stress he had gone through for the month. But he said he just wanted to take a leave and not really rest. Picture me thinking of what to do and where to go for the weekend at midnight. I got really excited.

That Friday was a tiring one. I swear. I simply wanted to hit the bed as soon as we arrived but of course, we didn’t.

After Alex’s school, we went to the hospital. Our itinerary includes vaccination for the two girls and ear cleaning for Alex. I peeped at the OB’s door but decided I will just see her next time.

Our pedia gave our girls Typhoid vaccine. She said that during summer season and vacation, cases of this water borne disease goes up because most kids go for a swim. And even if our kids only swim in our backyard, they will surely drink water for their pool, whether intentionally (like what Maxyn did this morning) or accidentally. Even if they bathe themselves first before plunging to the pool and just stay there, the possibility of contamination is really high with other kids joining the fun.

I was really glad we made it to our pediatrician. Well, not that we will be hitting public pools and beaches soon, but who knows.

Aside from Typhoid vaccine, Max is schedule to have her HEP A shot this coming April. I will make sure I do not forget it.

I hope your kids have these shots already. If not, an online buddy suggests yogurt or Yacult. Thanks for the tip, Arcee!

When Should Kids Transfer Rooms?

For some time now, Alex, our eldest child, has been telling us that she already want her own bed. A pink one with a Barbie headboard. She even tells us that she will sleep on the top row and her sister, Maxyn, will be on the bottom row. We have kidding her that we will simply separate our one single bed from our double bed and that will be hers. As for the Barbie headboard, we will just hire someone who can hand-paint her desired design.

But we haven’t been taking it seriously. Alex and Max has been co-sleeping with us since they were born. And no, they haven’t sleep without one of us, the parents. If I am not there, like when I attended overnight company affairs back when I am working, hubby makes sure he is there. And now that I am a WAHM, I am always there when they go to bed at night. But the recent events kind of make me think if it is already time for the girls to sleep on their own.

Giving children their own room to sleep has its pros and cons, of course. I read that when children are given their own room, they learn to put themselves to sleep on their own, which is an essential life skill. But giving them their own room also means spending. If there is a spare room it is easy to convert it to a child-proof one as long as there are resources. Everything a child needs should be there, perhaps including their own toilet with nice faucets to encourage them to clean their hands after playing. Cabinets, shelves, beds and their other needs should also be there. What if there is no spare room, how do we do it?

But if we go back to my question, when should they leave the parents’ room? Is there a right age? Are there skills I have to look for to tell that my children are ready? Do your children sleep in their own room/s?
