Importance of Establishing Routines

My Maxyn turned 21-months-old today. As much as I want to keep her as a baby, I know I cannot. All I can do is enjoy every moment I have with her while she is an infant and that is exactly what I am doing. Plus teaching her lessons and skills in a fun way.

I am proud to say that as early as now, Maxyn is almost potty trained. She still pees in her undies at times but she already knows the potty trainer and its use. She no longer wear a diaper in the evening. Aside from that, she sort of has an established routine already.

Established routines are important because this is what our kids will follow until they are old as these are the foundation. Routines help in forming good habits when it comes to sleeping and eating. Other routines can teach our kids how to be responsible. It also gives our children a sense of security. With established routines, our children will have that innate sense of what will happen next which can mean less chaos, better behavior, and easier for us, the parents.

Here is our girls’ routine. Greet everyone upon waking up. Eat breakfast. Play. Take a bath. Eat lunch. Sleep. Play outdoors. Eat dinner. Clean-up. Bed time.

Concept of Heaven

It all started with the Philippine TV Show, 100 Days to Heaven. The little boy named Kevin was hit by a car for saving her bestfriend, Ana (lead role). He has weak heart and everyone in his family did not expect he will go that soon. My daughter saw that episode. And since then, she kept on asking where people who dies go.

I was not yet really ready to answer that. I started with the good angel and bad angel where the former lives in heaven with Papa God, the creator, and the former in hell, where everything is bad and ugly. Thankfully she grasped the idea well. So I told her, people who die go to heaven. Period.

My 20-Month-Old Bites!

She also pinches and pulls hair.

I know that she does this out of frustrated and excitement most of the time. I also know that this is just a phase, and is normal for their age. It is just that I cannot help but be ashamed to the parents and guardians of her victims specially that there are times when she is the one moving towards the kids only o pinch their nose or bite them somewhere.

Explaining what is happening to my 5-year-old is also very challenging since she got used to being the center of attention and owned her toys to herself for quite some time. She is still adjusting and I know it will take more patience for me to help her understand.

I also need to work on my temper since it is always easy to shout than to pause for a while when frustration sets in, right? Double that with PMS and I go nuts!

The game plan is to let Alex understand sharing and make her avoid getting things from Max so that latter will not bite or hurt in any way the former. I have been telling Max that biting hurts but she does not seem to care. So I have to think of other ways how I can communicate to her that biting is not good. Got suggestions?

Did your kid went through this phase too? Share with me your stories and your tips.
