Summer Activity: Get to Know the Disney Princesses

Not so recently, I and my college girlfriends had an overnight get together. Of course, living in the other side of the metro, Gracey and I were early at Aimz’s abode. When we arrived, she was still very busy preparing our feast which included penne carbonara, chicken roll, cheese sticks and crema de fruta. While she was busy in the kitchen, the television was playing Beauty and the Beast for the kiddos of her stay-out helper. And as she was cooking, she sang the songs from the movie.

That struck me.

I realized that Alex only knows the names of the princesses but she has not seen the movies, except for Tangled. What a shame!

So you already know what happened next right? I looked for a compilation of the princess movies and it is what I put on the player when Alex is in the mood for watching. Alex’s summer vacation will be about knowing and seeing the princesses! As for us, adults, it is a time to rekindle the stories we loved since then.

I Miss Being a Techie Mom

Maybe TECHIE is not the appropriate term as I am not the geeky-techie type. How would you say “someone who understands some techie stuff” in a term?

Remembering my college years, my friend, Teejay, would always tease me to shift courses from Business/IT to purely IT. He says my brain can be put to better use if I take up purely IT. But I was too chicken and the thought of having so many Math subjects scares me. (I did not know I will encounter worse in my Business/IT course as we were given five Accounting subjects!)

After college, my techie-know-how was slightly pushed on the side as I applied for a Technical Writer position in the same team where I had my internship. Gone are the days when I created use cases and rationalized databases. But I learned what computer viruses are, how to manually remove them, manually update an anti-virus protection and the likes. I gained technical-know-how for a certain brand. But now that I am no longer connected with that brand, I have nowhere to use that knowledge.

Which makes me think of studying again. Maybe I should start learning WordPress, which is the main tool I have been using for almost two years now. Maybe I should re-learn database and apply for a work-at-home position online. Maybe there are also companies outsourcing citrix monitoring to home-based people like me and that it is another area I can learn. Or maybe, I can do SEO, which is one of the most in demand work online.

Now that I have written those, the possibilities is vast. Maybe I should internalize first what I really want to do. Then act on it little by little. Pray for me that I will not be chicken anymore to take on these techie challenges as these are the things that make me happy.

Change Shift

Those words are synonymous! Hahaha!

So maybe March is still not the start of my blogging year. It’s first week started with Alex’s final exams and yeah, we were really busy reviewing, thus no post. After her three day exams, they resumed to their regular schedule but had to undergo another change of shift yesterday. This whole week, Alex’s school schedule is 7:30am, as a preparation for their graduation on Saturday. OMG, by June, we already have a grade-schooler!!!! Can we pause the time for a while, please????

Ok, save the sentiments for now.

If you’ve been reading my posts, you would know by now that this is an extra challenge for us because we are not morning people, specially me. But I welcomed the change. And what do you know, for two days, we are not late for school. I did not have a hard time waking up Alex and preparing her. That makes me think now if I should transfer her to the morning class come next school year. But that would mean losing the chance to be part of the cream section. (I wish all school would just shuffle all students year after year and that there would be no cream section anymore.) Anyway, that is another post. I am kind of proud of myself and Alex.

After this week, it is officially vacation for us. Woot woot! Time to think of the girls’ summer activities!

Hi there! I'm Nicquee and this is my little space in this world wide web. I'm a mom of two and is happily married. I started this blog as literally my online journal where I dump my emotions. Over the years, I realized that there is more to write about. Feel free to browse through and I hope you find a thing or two that is relatable to you. If that happens, give me a shout-out!
