Self-weaned, finally?

Adj. 1. weaned – freed of dependence on something especially (for mammals) mother’s milk. Source: weaned

I’ve always wanted Ayex to have a self-directed weaning from breastfeeding. Yes, I’ve been feeding her with my own milk for 3 years now. And although my parents and in-laws are already telling me to train her to wean ( because she’s becoming hard-headed and impatient as they say), I did not because secretly, I don’t want our special bonding to be over.

But like other breastfeeding-working moms out there, I too get tired. Specially now that I am 4 months pregnant with our second child, my body goes through a lot of changes again, and sometimes, breastfeeding can be really tiresome.

One time, as I was getting diaper supplies, my friend/supplier told me a story how her eldest child just gave up feeding from the bottle. Her child is 4-5yo. She told the teacher to tell her kid that she should no longer drink her milk from the bottle because she’ll get tooth decay. Instead, she should start drinking her milk from the glass. From this, I got an idea of telling Ayex’s teacher about her still breastfeeding. Ayex stopped feeding from the bottle after she turned two and drinks her occasional milk from the glass when I’m at work. At night she feeds from me.

Hubby told me over chat yesterday that he was able to ask Teacher Jade to tell Ayex that she should stop getting milk from me. Instead, she can drink milk from the glass. After dinner, hubby asked Ayex what did Teacher Jade told her about drinking her milk. My little girl narrated to me what her teacher told her. We told her that if she asks for mommy’s milk, we’ll tell her teacher the next day that she still breastfeed to which responded with constant No.

I had my usual short tv-time and I waited for her to ask for milk. She did not. At bedtime, she said Mommy, dede. I reminded her what we’ll say to her teacher the next day and offered that I’ll just pat her back to put her to sleep. She agreed. After a few minutes, she’s already fast asleep. She woke up twice in the middle of the night to pee. After peeing, she goes to back to sleep without asking for milk.

Yes, I did not breastfeed her the whole day and the whole night yesterday until this morning. And although I don’t want to jinx this, I hope that she is really ready to finally wean. Not because I want our special bonding to be over but I really need a rest. I know I will be breastfeeding again once our little one comes out in June 2010. What a bitter-sweet reality of motherhood!

My material goals for 2010

I’d like to think that I’ve always known my priorities when it comes to spending. The past years, I rarely spend big bucks on something even if I really liked to because we are saving for our future – our very own home. I must admit, it was a bit hard. When it’s that time of the month and I get depressed, I feel like I’ve been too harsh to myself, a deprived little girl. But when reality sinks back, I know everything will pay off soon.

And so this year, I’m keeping a list of things I’d like to have. I’m like spending all the savings I had in the previous years with this list. Hahaha! Well, this list is simply a wish list. If by any chance I get all of them in a year then that a big hooooooray! But if not, there’s always another year for these earthly desires.

I want my very own portable sewing machine. In my family, I think only me and my father know how to operate a sewing machine and actually sew. Recently, I’ve been wanting to DIY little things for me and Ayex. The job is not really hard when manually done (read: hand-sewn), but definitely, sewing using an electric and portable machine can make things easier and prettier.
I also want to have a new digicam, preferably this Samsung ST500/550 model. We’ve been using hubby’s Kodak digicam and lately, I’m feeling that it wants to retire already. SIL told hubby that she’ll give us a DSLR but I don’t want an SLR. I just want a point-and-shoot camera that I can bring with me anytime, anywhere. I particularly like this model because of its dual lcd. You know, there are times when there’s no one else to take your picture. winking smileys

I would like to buy a new mobile phone too. The last time I bought a phone was in October 2007. That phone somewhat broke down already and I’m currently using hubby’s old phone. I didn’t put a picture here because I have no definite model/brand in mind. I’ll probably start researching on that when I finally made up my mind.

Last on my list is a trip to Palawan. I think the above is already too much so I won’t elaborate on this any further.

Starting my 2010 journey

First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who, in one way or another, helped me with this blog. Last year was a blast for this blog although I slacked again by the end of the year.

Anyway, let me finish my first post for the year. In this post, I’d like to share with you what I learned last January 1.

Since we really didn’t plan of hearing the midnight mass in the nearby church due to fireworks everywhere, I settled with the TV mass. My mom told me in the morning that only sick and disabled do that. Is that true?

The priests homily were pretty interesting. One is long but very informative and the other is short and sweet. Both left a mark in me although I appreciate the latter even more.

Fr. Jerry Orbos said that the way we go through each year is like traveling. He then gave the following tips for everyone to have a fun and stress-free travel.

  • Travel light. Get rid of excess baggage. There are really stuff you don’t need out there.
  • Travel with hope.
  • Travel with trust.
  • And lastly, travel not alone.

I definitely want to adhere to these tips. I think these can result to both material and non-material rewards and so I’m keeping them in writing, in my mind and in my heart.

Hi there! I'm Nicquee and this is my little space in this world wide web. I'm a mom of two and is happily married. I started this blog as literally my online journal where I dump my emotions. Over the years, I realized that there is more to write about. Feel free to browse through and I hope you find a thing or two that is relatable to you. If that happens, give me a shout-out!
