It all started when I had an overdose of shrimp about three weeks ago. When I noticed the itchy small dots on my arms, I stopped eating shrimps but continued to eat fish and egg because I’m unaware that these should also be avoided. Things worsen as my face is now all dry and almost everywhere in my body has dots. And they are itchy!
Another sad part is that Maxyn got the allergies too. I should not be surprised because I’m asthmatic, which means my kids are really prone to atopic dermatitis or skin asthma. I just didn’t realize that this will be my sort of penalty for eating shrimp excessively.
Now, lesson has been learned. I should watch my diet or else, I may have to stop breastfeeding to avoid passing the allergens to little Maxyn. That I don’t want to happen. So from hereon, I should moderate my intake of the following to prevent skin allergies:
- Shellfish, such as shrimp, crab, and lobster
- Tree nuts, including walnuts, almonds, and pecans
- Peanuts
- Fruits, particularly strawberries, but also melons, pineapple, and other tropical fruits
- Tomatoes
- Fish
- Food additives such as dyes, thickeners, and preservatives. Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a common food allergy in this category.
- Chicken
- Egg
