Intro. I work in Ortigas and live in Project 8. On my way home, I take the bus until Muñoz then take a jeepney. My fare from Ortigas to Muñoz is P18 via an air-conditioned bus.
I only went to work twice last week. Since Maxyn got hospitalized and was only discharged last Monday, March 28, I decided not to work the following day so I can get some rest. I only went to work on Wednesday and Thursday. I worked from home on Friday because of another visit to the hospital and ballet recital practice. While we were at the hospital, I saw on the news that there will be a bus fare hike for the first five kilometers ONLY. It will start on March 29. I felt relieved because I will not be affected.
I was right. Last Wednesday and Thursday, I still payed my usual P18 fare.
Monday. I handed the conductor P20 and he returned P2 to me.
Tuesday. I handed the bus conductor P20, he only returned P1 to me plus my ticket. I was sure that the fare hike is only for the minimum fare. So I politely asked and the conductor seemed uncomfortable when he answered me. I am tired and I need to have as much energy I can for playtime when I get home. I brushed it off.
Wednesday. I handed the conductor P20 and returned P1 to me. Ok, this fare hike is now confusing me. I told the conductor that I thought, the plus P1 is only for the minimum fare. He replied that it is effective for all but without looking at me. I sensed some kind of lie in his answer. Even the other passengers were shocked when they were asked for more than what they usually pay.
I also read a news that giving a tip to a taxi is now mandatory. Since when did the word mandatory became associated with tip? Tip is called as such because it is voluntary, right? I vowed not to ride the taxi since they increase the flag down to P40 and P3.5 for every 300m. But with the recent events, I have no choice. Good thing rain is not here yet, it is still easier to take other public transportation. And oh, even the tricylcle drivers are also asking for fare increase now. Oh well. I hope people’s salary will also increase.

I will never give a tip to an obnoxious, irresponsible taxi driver, they even don’t give the receipt. they turn off the meter as soon as you give them the fare and when you ask for the receipt ikaw pa sisihin na hindi mo sinabi na gusto mo resibo. aren’t they supposed to give the receipt? but there are a few drivers who are really nice, so of course may tip sila from me 🙂
hoping you can follow and link up if you haven’t yet =)
