Starting Again

The holiday is already over but I still have a hangover. Sort of actually. Maybe because after the holidays, my eldest celebrates her birthday. That actually explains why there were no posts last weekend. We have been really busy and tired but extremely happy and contented with how our day went. Again, thank you, Lord, for granting all my prayers for Ayex’s birthday!

Anyway, that is really for another post.

Now that things are settling down, I decided to start accomplishing my goals for this year one by one. I started with the business.

I have been eyeing on a small business since I quit my job mid last year but a series of changes did not allow me to do so. So this year, I am up for a good start, a very good one actually.

I bugged my brother to help me start my very own loading business. You see, here in the country where I live, there are millions of mobile phone users and 90% of which are prepaid subscribers. That is our target market. It is better that I start now while I still have some money for business.

Where Do You Store Your Photos?

Last year, I gifted myself with a Western Digital 500GB external hard drive. It is what I use now to store our photos. And by store, I mean in their rawest form – many are not yet organized properly.

I am a clicker-happy person and I do not delete shots, blurred, over-exposed, simply duplicate until I organize the pictures. And since I have been stalling on that organize-the-pictures project for so long now, I have not exhausted that 500GB.

And since I do not work outside our home anymore, I do not have a need to bring the HD with me all the time. I kept it in our desk and I only get it when I am transferring new photos.

Then there is this discussion in my community about where the moms store their pictures. I would not say I am 100% confident that my HD will never conk out on me. But not transporting it gives me a feeling that it has less chances of happening, thus, I do not store the photos anywhere else. I know, I know. I cannot be too sure. Which returns me to the title of this post.

Where can I back-up our pictures with the maximum benefits but minimum cost? Should I burn them in DVDs? Should I buy another HD? Share with me your thoughts.

Safe Internet Usage: Read and Practice

Last night, I was on my Facebook wall when I saw several posts from a relative. His post was about Miley Cyrus. His posts looked suspicious because of the image preview. I became more suspicious when I saw he also posted it in his dad’s wall. (I mean, if you are browsing some adult content and you are underage, you do not want your parents to know because you will get reprimanded.) I saw him online and I asked if he is really online. Without waiting for the answer, I asked who is he. My guts was telling me that my relative’s account got hacked. He replied and said he was a classmate of my relative and that he accidentally clicked on something using that account. He said he already texted my relative to inform him. Then I asked the classmate if he knew that he triggered a virus. Then there was no response.

I immediately created a shout-out to my relatives on my wall and in our group warning them about the said link. And I really hope no one clicked the link out of curiosity.

See, that is the problem of this generation’s teeners. They are very curious and they hate taking precautions. They do not think before they click. They do not know what is safe and not. And even if they know, they do not practice it! That is why they end up infecting their accounts and gadgets.

Now, I do not know what will happen to that FB account. Spammers, virus and other malware and online threat are everywhere. If we do not learn how to safely use the powerful Internet, we will end up divulging private things online and we can get into more serious troubles.

Safe Internet usage should really be part of Computer lessons at school and at home.
