Last year, I gifted myself with a Western Digital 500GB external hard drive. It is what I use now to store our photos. And by store, I mean in their rawest form – many are not yet organized properly.
I am a clicker-happy person and I do not delete shots, blurred, over-exposed, simply duplicate until I organize the pictures. And since I have been stalling on that organize-the-pictures project for so long now, I have not exhausted that 500GB.
And since I do not work outside our home anymore, I do not have a need to bring the HD with me all the time. I kept it in our desk and I only get it when I am transferring new photos.
Then there is this discussion in my community about where the moms store their pictures. I would not say I am 100% confident that my HD will never conk out on me. But not transporting it gives me a feeling that it has less chances of happening, thus, I do not store the photos anywhere else. I know, I know. I cannot be too sure. Which returns me to the title of this post.
Where can I back-up our pictures with the maximum benefits but minimum cost? Should I burn them in DVDs? Should I buy another HD? Share with me your thoughts.

Hi!
Before I used to have a 350GB External HDD. That’s where I store my photos.
But since I bought a new laptop with 640GB HD, partitioned it and will make use of the other drive for photos only.. Since I am a clicker too,but not much as before.. Work at home na din eh.. so less chances na din na makapag-snap ng photos..
But yeah, it’s true that you can never be so sure that your HDD won’t conk on you. I used to store my photos at multiply.com and now I am planning to have a Pro account at Flickr.com..
Also try artscow.com

Our lappy’s HD is small, old na kasi ang unit na ito. tsk.
I will check on flickr and artscow too.
Thanks!

Hi Mommy Nicquee!! We didn’t get to bond much at the GEB no? Next time!! I swear, you can’t be too sure! I stored everything in my Phillips 500GB ED and that was already my back up. I had the misfortune to drop it and it went bonk. Everything was there, files from work but the most precious were our photos and videos from 2003 to 2010. Imagine losing all that? π
I am also very clicker happy, and I hardly ever erase anything so even the blurred and hazy I keep. I’m rather organized though. I date all specific photo folders like this: 2011-12-03 – [name of file], translated as Year-Month-Day followed by file name. I’m kinda OC.
Just a few months ago, I was lucky to get my photos back! Not all, but at least a lot of them were saved. So I got premium storage by upgrading at Photobucket and SmugMug. I still store my files at a new ExDrive but I back up on these online sites. I loooove SmugMug! It’s pricey but worth it. Let me know if you wanna, I can give you a discount code LoL!
P.S.: Join naman sa Colorful Weekend meme oh! Ang dami mo kayang colorful photos — blurred, over-exposed & duplicate included, hehehe.

Hi May!
Oo nga, we did not get to bond much. Next time.
I have been meaning to join colorful weekend. Believe me, dami kong photos na naka line up. But I am really unable to blog on weekends. Tapos madalas, the writing mojo gets in the way. π
When my pocket is ready for an online storage, I will contact you. I do not want to go through that heartache and stress of losing precious memories.
