Enjoy the Summer On A Budget: A Mom’s Guide to Planning This Year’s Summer Vacay

The blazing heat of the sun, the humid air, and the sound of the word “vacation” echoing everywhere only mean one thing, summer has just begun! And since we live in a tropical country, there are thousands of ways you can replenish and have a dose of summer fun. From cheap to luxurious to everything in between. But as a practical Filipina mom, we usually go for budget-friendly ways to keep us cool for the summer. However, before planning exciting getaways and activities, here are some reminders to guide you in staying on budget and maximizing the enjoyment of the whole family this summer vacation.

You don’t have to go far

Some might take summer as an opportunity to go on long trips and far places to unwind. But honestly, there’s an array of fun activities near you that’s worth a try this summer. Going far away from home can be really exciting, but if you’re not prepared for it and working a tight budget, this isn’t practical. You can take your family to amusing summer activities that are just within your reach. Easy to go, and easy on the pocket too!

Summer workshops are fun too

Summer workshops perfect for your kids are literally everywhere nowadays. Signing your kids up to these kinds of workshops can be convenient for us moms since you only need to drop your kids there and let the workshop keep them entertained. While you can have your me time or go out on that long overdue date with your partner. Summer workshops can also help your children learn a new skill and get to socialize with other kids.

Get Creative

Moms are creative creatures, always finding ways to cook a new recipe, a new game for the kids, a fresh ambiance for the house, and so on. So why not use this creative spirit to create something that would involve the whole family this summer? You can bake cookies or make ice candy with the kids and sell them, this way you can instill the entrepreneurship mindset in them. You can also go on a backyard renovation project, let the kids paint their bookshelves, or even make wall art out of your family pictures and memorabilia. You can always enjoy the summer vacation even when you’re indoors, you just have to push those creative juices flowing again. This time, take your whole family with you!

Have a Challenge

Another stay at home summer idea! Creating challenges that make the whole family a team can foster creativity and teamwork. You can brainstorm on what type of activities you all love doing and work on them. You may challenge the whole family to create a cookbook by the end of the summer, learn a new skill altogether, finish reading a certain book, or even as far as learning a new language. You can do a lot of challenges together as a family, this way you can finish the summer vacation with more support in each other, plus a new achievement together. And most importantly, without spending too much money!

There are numerous ways to enjoy summer without the pain of heavy spending. You can choose one of the tips mentioned above or maybe a combination of all of them! Wishing you all a fun and memorable summer everyone!
