So we went to CMC again yesterday and saw another doctor, Dra. Naidas.
While still in the reception of Dra. Naidas’ clinic, I can hear her interview the parents of the baby before us. I heard something about tigdas or measles. Then I asked her secretary, “Uso po ba tigdas? Ito po (pointing to Ayex) may tigdas din eh.” She replied to me with “Hindi tigdas yan.”
Ok. That’s a bit reassuring. When it’s our turn, the doctor didn’t noticed Ayex’s rashes at once. She only saw it when we showed it to her. Then she said, “That’s Roseola Infatum or what they call tigdas hangin”. I stressed the bold part because I have this feeling that she didn’t want us to be confused with Roseola and Measles.
Further, she said Ayex can take a bath. She can also get some air through an electric fan (hoooray!) We just let all the rashes go out and they will be gone in 3-5 days. But. Yes, there’s a but. She told us to have Ayex undergo CBC just to be sure. Ok, I started to panic. They will get blood from my baby. They will need to prick my baby to do that.
I can’t compose myself but I know I have to be strong. The procedure was delayed because we forgot to take a Medicard form from the 10th floor before heading to the laboratory. After some 30 minutes, Mon is back. He arrived just in time to catch another baby crying out loud and her grandma is telling the medtech who took her blood “Bad ka!”. I can feel the little girl’s pain. I keep hugging Ayex tight and kissing her head. My eyes are starting to get hot and I know, if I don’t compose myself, tears will be falling soon even before the medtech takes Ayex blood.
“Alessandra Monique” called the medtech. She asked us to sit down as she prepares her parapernalia. Ayex is trying to explore the new things she is seeing such as tin cans with cottons, small glass tubes etc etc. I told her those are not ours. Such a curious cat! I asked the medtech how is she going to do it. To my slight relief, she said she’d only prick Ayex’s finger. She made me hold Ayex’s right arm as she holds her middle finger. After a few seconds, she’s already gathering Ayex’s blood sample. My didn’t cry. She’s so brave. She’s watching what the medtech is doing while I’m still hugging her tight. I thank the Lord for giving Mon, Ayex and Me so much courage.
The result of the CBC is ok. It’s only Roseola. Nothing more serious. On Saturday, we’re going back to Dra. Naidas for a follow up check up.
It must be difficult for a new mom to experience these things. But I'm sure, kayang-kaya mo iyan. Hugs and kisses to Ayex. I hope she gets well soonest!
