Enlarged Foot Bone

I have been noticing for some time now that a bone in my right foot has become protruding. It was not like that before and I do not know what caused it. I do not have a very nice feet so anything that happens to them really bothers me because I do not want them to look uglier.

When I am out, people’s feet are something that really catch my attention. I already saw some similar cases to mine in women in particular, maybe because we are the ones who usually wear open shoes or sandals.

This is what I mean.

bunion bunions

So I did a little search online and found out that my case is called Bunions.

Bunions are a very common foot deformity. A Bunion is an enlargement of the bone and tissue around the joint of the big toe. There is a drifting of the 1st metatarsal bone towards the inside of the foot resulting in a large bump protruding from the big toe joint. As the deformity gets worse, the big toe starts to move towards the second toe, resulting in malalignment of the joint.

Bunions: Enlarged Foot Bone

Bunions most commonly affect women. Some studies report that bunions occur nearly 10 times more frequently in women then men. It has been suggested that tight-fitting shoes, especially high-heel and narrow-toed, might increase the risk for bunion formation. Bunions are reported to be more prevalent in people who wear shoes than in barefoot people. There also seem to be inherited (genetic) factors that predispose to the development of bunions, especially when they occur in younger individuals.

So maybe the cause on my Bunions is my frequent wearing of tight-fitting, narrow shoes. I actually have several of them. I am definitely considering getting more shoes that follows the shape of my feet. If only getting customized shoes are affordable, I would have opted for that. I hope it is not yet too late.

I`m a Podiatrist and I think your feet look pretty good. You should see the ghastly ones I see everyday. You have a very mild bunion, which may never cause you problems. Girls like to wear nice shoes, so pick your mark. If you have to walk or stand a lot wear something more conservative, more rounded toe area and lower heels. Try to wear something comfortable day to day and save the sexy ones for special occasions. Means you will have pretty and pain free feet for years to come.

Buti na lang mataba ang paa ko so it would be impossible for me to wear shoes with narrow opening. I know they don’t look cool especially kung fashionista but I’m comfortable in “pambahay” shoes and sandals. And, since semi flat-footed ako, I don’t wear much heels either, except pag formal occasions, siguro once in 5 years haha. 😉

I do hope di na sya magprotrude masyado for you. Invest na lang in a good and comfy pair kahit medyo expensive.

You have nice feet, sis. As for those bunions, you might want to consider investing in a good pair of shoes like Naturalizer or Aerosoles. Those cheap Korean shoes are also comfortable.
