Hakab Na! 2017 is Happening Tomorrow

hakab-na-2017

Can I just say, ang sarap mag-anak uli sa mga panahong ito! New baby gadgets can be found here and there. Sa dami ng mga bago, ang hirap na ngang mamili! At hindi lang para kay baby yan, pati para kay nanay, ang dami-dami na ring anik anik na available. I remembered my youngest sister wished for a nursing pillow. And I was like, what?! Ten years ago, wala ata nun, or maybe I am not just aware, or that it was not that popular back then as it is now.

At bukod sa mga bago at mas cute na gamit existing today, one of the major differences I can see with breastfeeding specifically is that, it is slowly becoming the NORM. Yes, finally! It is not yet there, but it is getting there. Slowly but surely.

So August is National Breastfeeding Month. And to celebrate, Breastfeeding Pinays, the online support group of over 180,000 mothers, is hosting Hakab Na! 2017 tomorrow, August 5, 2017. It will be held in Smart-Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Quezon City.

Now on its fifth year, Hakab Na! 2017 will gather breastfeeding families, lactation experts, peer counselors, and breastfeeding advocacy supporters, to boost awareness of the health and economic benefits of breastfeeding, promote the importance of providing proper support to breastfeeding mothers and ultimately, create a breastfeeding nation.

August is World Breastfeeding Month

I only learned about the celebration of breastfeeding month when my former colleague and nursing room buddy, Mommy Bing, told me that Mommy Matters Nursing Wear is looking for someone to model their clothes in the culminating event last year. I breastfed Ayex for three years yet I did not know about such celebrations and I thought I was informed. Hahaha!

Now, I am exclusively breastfeeding Maxyn for a year already. I am proud of myself and I owe it to my support group. Sometimes, I want to believe those who tell me that they do not have breastmilk that is why they opt for formula. But I guess even a little, I am informed, and I know that is not true.

As we celebrate the World Breastfeeding Month this August 2011, may more moms be encouraged to give the best and feed their young with natural — breastmilk. And if you have time, go and check out these activities in line with this celebration.

Lactation Area

Some four years ago, breastfeeding campaigns in the Philippines was very little to scarce. I was breastfeeding Ayex then. Our old office has no nursing room and none of the rooms can be converted because of their design. I opted to express my milk in the shower room. I stationed an office chair there for my use and every time I find out that the janitorial services removed it, I get mad. Missing chair is not the only event that drives me nuts. I had several cases of disappearing ice too. Ice packs at that time was very limited not to mention expensive. The worse part is, I only find out that someone used my ice a few hours before I transport my expressed breast milk. I need the ice to keep them cold until I get home. Otherwise, Ayex needs to consume them already or they go waste. While I dealt with these scenarios, I never gave Ayex formula milk for two years.

Four years later, I read on the internet that a mom should never use a comfort room for lactation. Ayex is fine now so I guess pumping milk in the shower area did not do any harm on my milk. I really hope there was no bad effect.

Thankfully, I do not have to experience that again. Breastfeeding awareness has spread the past years that a law was even passed in support to lactating moms. Now, every establishment is mandated to have a nursing room and I am happy that our new office has one.

Our nursing room has two La-Z boy chairs, a refrigerator, a counter, an extension cord, a garbage bin and a door with lock. Our company also supplies us with alcohol and paper towel. This room is currently being used by more or less ten nursing moms.

Breastfeeding is indeed the most natural way to feed a baby and I am grateful that our company is with us on this.

Hi there! I'm Nicquee and this is my little space in this world wide web. I'm a mom of two and is happily married. I started this blog as literally my online journal where I dump my emotions. Over the years, I realized that there is more to write about. Feel free to browse through and I hope you find a thing or two that is relatable to you. If that happens, give me a shout-out!
